The kitchen is in a mess.. I don’t know what to The kitchen is in a mess.. I don’t know what to cook for supper.. but I suddenly saw something through the kitchen window I simply had to pick. Such beautiful colours against the dark grey sky - all brought together .. and the pink agastache the exact colour on the jug.. Spurts of creativity and bringing lovliness inside just makes my day… #penstemon #agastache #rose #impulsive #insidegarden

Trials and errors : these lovely old gates from my Trials and errors : these lovely old gates from my previous garden form the entry to a space where I originally had hopes of creating a cool, woodland garden. Beautiful woodland plants and bulbs emerging beneath the canopy of established trees .. a quiet space to sit - a bench at the end.
But nature had different ideas!.. During the build, this area in the rear garden was levelled by heavy machinery. The ensuing flooding and the parking of heavy vehicles during the house build, resulted in tremendous compaction of the soil. We tried our best to loosen up the soil - using rotaries and diggers - but it was not enough. We installed drainage - but still not enough. Also - it is the final stopping point of a gentle slope of the garden - hence a gathering point of all excess water. We have lost four trees and numerous plants. I have had to adapt my thinking and have now designed a ‘parterre’ garden .. using hedging, existing pathways, surrounding hedging and gravel. We will plant buxus balls in the centre islands.
An unavoidable compromise.. but luckily (hopefully) a solution!

The Walled Garden is fast becoming a favourite spo The Walled Garden is fast becoming a favourite spot in the garden.. we left the planting here till last ( only four months ago) and ended up using all the left over plants - perennials, roses and dahlias. The greenhouse sits to one side and connects through to the barn. The vegetable garden which leads off the kitchen leads straight into the walled garden. Wes our builder found some wonderful old bricks - giving the garden a feeling of age. #walledgarden #vegetablegarden #greenhouse #perennials #dahlias #rose #pickinggarden

We’ve had lots of rain these past few days and these blooms had fallen over or were just about to! With this house , I’ve used some colour.. as seen here with this soft blue (especially mixed). It was a lot of fun and many decisions were changed along the way! #colour #paintingwithcolour #colourfulinteriors #home

So happy making!…picking flowers from my own gar So happy making!…picking flowers from my own garden. I adore the vibrancy of these colours.. the strong pinks of the dahlias, the crisp white of the cosmos (grown from seed), the stalkiness and purple pop of the Verbena ‘bonariensis’… and the unexpected addition of the bright orange of the Cocrosmia .. I wasn’t sure it would work but it somehow does!.. all beautifully contained in this lovely urn bought so long ago from @thearkelements .. (you can also hear Miss Dottie who came along for flower picking, trotting about!)
Its going to be hot here today so I’m going out to pick more … #dahlias #cosmos #flowers #verbenabonariensis #indoorgarden #jennyroseinnes #notsponsored
